FIFA World Cup 2026 results roundup Day 2: USA make impressive start, Canada share spoils
World Cup 2026 results: Day 2 of FIFA World Cup 2026 saw two games. In Group B, co-hosts Canada played Bosnia & Herzegovina and in Group D, USA faced South America’s Paraguay.
Canada 1-1 Bosnia & Herzegovina
Canada a rescued a first-ever World Cup point after drawing their game against Bosnia & Herzegovina. Previously, the North American had suffered defeats in their six previous World Cup games in 1986 and 2022.
The game at Toronto Stadium saw the hosts start off positively as they looked lively in the early exchanges. But Bosnia’s physical presence was always going to pose a challenge and so it proved. In the 21st minute Jovo Lukic headed in from Ivan Basic’s corner following a flick on Sead Kolasinac.
Jesse Marsch’s side responded well with Kolasinac being forced to make goal-line clearance. Later, Nikola Katic also cleared Tani Oluwaseyi’s header off the line. But Canada were rewarded for their approach as substitute Cyle Larin brought them level with a fantastic finish in the 78th minute.
The result and performance will offer encouragement to the co-hosts and they will hope to progress further in what is looking like a tight Group B. Canada will face Qatar on 18 June in their next game and Bosnia will play fellow European side Switzerland on the same date.
USA 4-1 Paraguay
USA made a stunning start to their World Cup campaign in front over 70,000 fans at the Los Angeles Stadium. Coming into the game, there were a lot of questions around Mauricio Pochettino’s side and they answered them in some style.
An own goal from Paraguay’s Damian Bobadilla gave USA the perfect start and they didn’t look back. They pressed well and played an energy that the South American side failed to contain. Former Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun doubled their lead from a Christian Pulisic pass with a thumping finish.
Balogun, who now plays for Ligue 1 side Monaco, scored his second of the day, after skipping past Omar Alderete and finishing off another quick attack. La Albirroja then found a goal back after Mauricio scored against the run of play.
However, the Stars and Stripes sealed the win in emphatic fashion after Giovanni Reyna’s finish with the outside of his right foot. The win give USA a strong start in Group D, which also contains Paraguay and Turkiye.
Up next for US is Australia on Friday, 19 June while Paraguay will meet Turkey on Saturday, 20 June.
